Did Evan and Paige make the right decision?

On Royal Pains Season 8 Episode 5, the coupe had to think about whether IVF was the correct route for them to take when they realized they hadn't thought about the demands of it all.

Meanwhile on this USA hit, Divya met Hank's mentor, but didn't realize he had changed due to medical issues.

Also, Jeremiah made a video for Divya's baby shower, but did it go down a treat?

The ATX Festival, in case you don't know about it, is a festival for television lovers.

In its fifth year, the festival brings together all kinds of programming, including that which you don't often find at big showcases like ComicCons.

It's not the first time Royal Pains has been featured at the ATX Festival, but it may have been their last (then again, canceled series are never forgotten at ATX!), because it's going off the air. After tonight's episode there will be only two more to go!!

I had the chance to sit down with this TV family to talk about the show and what it's meant to them along the way. The clips below are about that. Next week, I'll have more as we talked a bit about what Royal Pains has meant to us as fans of the show, and the tight relationship between Hank and Evan, as well as Mark and Paulo, so stay tuned.

It was a really long and extraordinarily fun interview. They consider themselves family, and it's easy to understand why. There was so much love and respect in the room, it felt like being wrapped in a warm blanket. It's that feeling that has contributed greatly to the lasting success of the series.

Take a look at what they had to say about the realization that the end is near, but not nearly as bitter as it is oh, so sweet.

Tune in tonight to Royal Pains Season 8 Episode 6 and watch Royal Pains online if you want more of these sweet people!

1. Mark Feuerstein - Royal Pains - ATX Interview

Living the full arc of the show and having a full resolution to all of their stories meant the ending of Royal Pains is very sweet for Mark Feuerstein, who plays Hank.

2. Paulo Costanzo - Royal Pains - ATX Interview

Paulo Costanzo definitely has the sharp witted humor in the bunch, and the sharp tongue! He used it chastise me for reminding him that it's all coming to an end.

3. Andrew Lenchewski - Royal Pains - ATX Interview

While series creator Andrew Lenchewski has no problem finding bitterness in other areas of his life, he can find none in doing 104 wonderful episodes of Royal Pains with his other family.

4. Reshma Shetty - Royal Pains - ATX Interview

Reshma Shetty believes the viewers see how close the entire crew is and that's why the show is so popular. And why they're so cool.

5. Ben Shenkman - Royal Pains - ATX Interview

Eddie returned to the Hamptons on Royal Pains Season 8 Episode 6 after hiding out in Passaic, New Jersey.

Why go back to Hank and Evan’s childhood home? Guilt, mostly. He feels guilty for abandoning his family all of those years ago and guilty for lying to them now.

And rightfully so.

Evan Is Taken Aback - Royal Pains Season 8 Episode 6

Yes, Eddie panicked and made a poor decision, and this time he was lucky that Hank was there to save him, which led to one of my favorite moments.

When the receptionist at Passaic General Hospital asked Hank if the Hamptons was better than “down the shore,” I couldn’t help but laugh, because in Jersey, you never, ever say you’re going to the beach. Anyone who has grown up in New Jersey asks if you’re going down the shore.

Well played, Royal Pains, for getting it right.

Eddie got off easy with Hank – and with his fiancée, who was not only willing to marry him but wanted to throw an even bigger wedding than before. I can’t wait to see it. I’m just a sucker for a wedding episode.

But Evan wasn’t about to let him off the hook. When Eddie promised never to lie to his family again, Evan wasn’t buying it.

As far as believing your promises, Paige and I are trying to start our own family right now, and when we do, my first promise will be to never let you near enough to hurt or disappoint our child.

Evan

I really couldn’t blame Evan. For years, he was Eddie’s ally, but time and again the man has disappointed his family. Evan’s not about to let him do that to his grandchild, too.

Evan and Paige’s journey with IVF has been surprisingly well balanced in that it’s shown the frustrations while still finding the humor and heart, as in this Royal Pains quote:

Paige: It's just so wild to think that some time soon, that some of your sperm are going to meet some of my eggs.
Evan: I know. I know. I hope they hit if off.

And when Evan asked their doctor if he’d ever been told that he sounded like a Bond villain, I had to laugh because I was thinking the same thing.

Elsewhere, Hank lost his dream house when he properly diagnosed Felicity with syphillis. I’m sure her once-friendly divorce from her husband just took a very nasty turn.

Jeremiah showed some serious backbone in standing up to Boris about his research. I couldn’t help but cheer for him, and if he does end up with money and notoriety from his work, I say it couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy.

But Divya was still at loose ends as she hadn’t heard from John Hopkins yet. I was a little confused by Raj taking a new job in Baltimore. What about his twins' mother? I’m assuming she lives in the Hamptons, although they haven't really discussed it.

Will the twins end up having to cross state lines to visit each of their parents, all so Divya can hopefully live out her dream of attending the school of her choice?

I know it’s a great medical school, but it all had me wondering if Divya’s mother’s words had more merit than she wanted to admit….

If you insist on having it all, you might end up with nothing.

Divya

How did Hank feel about Eddie going behind his back?

On Royal Pains Season 8 Episode 6, Eddie made a medical decision that could come back to bite him.

Royal Pains Season 8 Episode 7 Review: The Good News Is...

Generally, I cringe when I hear that one of my favorite shows is going to attempt a musical episode. Why? Because it’s rare to find one well done.

One of the only exceptions to that rule has been Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s “Once More with Feeling.” I’m still in awe of how much I enjoyed that installment.

Needless to say, I didn’t have high hopes for Royal Pains Season 8 Episode 7.

Surprisingly, not only did I really enjoy this hour, it even, at times, had me singing along!

Wedding Guests - Royal Pains

Both the song Divya sang to her child, and the actress’ voice were beautiful in that opening scene and set the bar high.

I also have to say that the women far outdid the men with their singing abilities. When Hank and Evan were singing about being done, I found myself wishing they were actually done a few verses sooner.

Cloris Leachman was wonderful as Annette, and I thought that having the musical numbers stem from hallucinations due to her brain bleed made them a much more plausible fit for the show.

In keeping with the tone of the series, the songs ranged from humorous to heartfelt…

My eggs don't seem to care that Evan's hot for me. Screw you, low motility. F. U., infertility. I'm making a baby.

Paige

Despite the setting of Eddie and Ms. Newburgh’s wedding (and I’m a sucker for a wedding episode), it was Paige and Evan’s infertility trials that stole the show for me.

As much as I could understand Evan wanting to do the pregnancy test early, I was appalled that he jumped ahead and read the end of books. That’s just so wrong!

But back to the story at hand. Paige’s quiet devastation at her negative pregnancy test was heartbreaking in this Royal Pains quote

I just don't understand why something that's so simple has to be so hard.

Paige

Especially when it was obvious to everyone around them what wonderful parents Evan and Paige will make. That was also evident in Paige’s advice to Evan concerning his father.

Evan had every right to be furious with Eddie for what he’d done, but the feeling was consuming him. Whether or not Eddie deserved to be forgiven was irrelevant; it was Evan who deserved to live without the anger towards his father.

Evan’s toast to his Dad was perfect in its honesty…

To my Dad, Eddie R. Lawson, the man who made me who I am, good and bad. The same hustle, the attraction to short cuts, the eye for a way in and up, but also the luck of finding people who love us for who we are and make us better men.

Evan

Jeremiah brought Cindy as his date to the wedding, and it’s wonderful to see him making such progress in both his career and personal life. I really hope we get to see him and Cindy together a bit more before the series ends next week.

The musical number at the rehearsal dinner actually had me singing along which shocked me as much as anyone. For goodness sake, they were singing about diseases such leprosy and crooning about how we’re all going to die someday…and yet the whole number made me smile.

I even liked that Annette passed out because, let’s face it, it’s not a HankMed party unless someone ends up unconscious and in need of medical assistance.

I’m thrilled that Paige and Evan found out they were pregnant. At it’s core, Royal Pains is an optimistic, happy show and this couple deserves to be happy.

Has Divya made it into Johns Hopkins? That’s my guess, but we’ll have to wait and see.

And will Hank choose to close up HankMed and move on? Is there truly no love on the horizon for Dr. Hank Lawson? Do you need there to be for the series to have a satisfying conclusion?

Tune in next week for my review of the series finale, Royal Pains Season 8 Episode 8, and if you can’t wait until then, you can watch Royal Pains online here at TV Fanatic.

Royal Pains Season 8 Episode 8 Review: Uninterrupted

There were big changes on Royal Pains Season 8 Episode 8, but the important things didn’t change at all because HankMed is a family and even when family moves away, it doesn’t really leave.

This series finale was a perfect blend of looking back at where it all began and forward to the future of the characters we’ve grown to love.

A Life Altering Decision - Royal Pains

Divya finally got into Johns Hopkins and the news was bittersweet as she left the Hamptons. To make things easier, she and Evan still bickered like siblings; this time over who officially convinced Hank to create HankMed.

The toasts at Divya’s going away party made me teary eyed. Evan had to admit that Divya made him a better man while Paige thanked her for doing such a good job in raising her husband.

But it was Jeremiah’s toast that really had me feeling like I needed a HankMed hug when he remembered how socially awkward he was when he first arrived and that he’d never forget how Divya helped him grow.

I was hoping that we’d get more about Jeremiah’s future, but I’ll have to be happy with this, and I’m going to choose to believe that he and Cindy end up living happily ever after.

I wondered if Hank was going to follow Boris but was happy when he decided to follow his own path instead. Still, it was gratifying to hear Boris admit that he considered Hank family, especially after all they’ve gone through together.

Boris gifting the use of Shadow Pond to Evan was an unexpected twist, and I enjoyed watching Evan’s exuberance after reading that letter. The guy who once had to sneak onto the property was now its master, at least in Boris’ absence.

When Lena’s aunt didn’t show up to become the kids’ official guardian, I knew exactly where that story was going. I don’t think anyone has bigger hearts than Evan and Paige, so it wasn’t a huge surprise that they’d take in the kids. For two people who were afraid they’d never have a family of their own, it appeared they had nothing to worry about.

It was Hank’s story that had me guessing until the end…

This whole summer I thought I was finally getting ready to put down my roots and settle down, but the truth is I don't feel like I'm settling down. I'm afraid I just may be settling.

Hank

So Hank decided to completely change it up and follow up on his biggest piece of unfinished business. Jill.

When Jill had visited earlier in Royal Pains season 8, Hank spent the entire time mistakenly believing that she was romantically involved with someone else. Now, knowing that she wasn’t, he decided to fly off and find out if they still had a chance as he told her in this Royal Pains quote

I'm ready to not let anything interrupt us, Jill, and I guess I came here to find out if...if you are too.

Hank

The flash forward three years into the future was perfect. Hank and Jill were a couple, and working for HankMed while summering in the Hamptons.

Evan, Paige, their twin boys, along with Lena and her brothers were all at Shadow Pond holding their annual Memorial Day party. Jeremiah and Divya were also back at HankMed, and Eddie and Ms Newburgh were on their way to the party, an hour late, as usual.

Although the family had moved away, it also came back together. What a perfect ending for a wonderful series.

Dark and violent shows used to be unique on TV, but not today. The current slate of shows is filled with darkness, crime and brutality. Lately, I find myself searching out shows that will make me smile.

Royal Pains was that show. I will always remember these happy summers in the Hamptons fondly and will surely miss it now that it’s over.

If you want the summer fun to continue, you can always watch Royal Pains online from the beginning here at TV Fanatic.

How did it all end?

That was a huge question on Royal Pains Season 8 Episode 8 when Boris planned to leave the Hamptons, but did Hank go with him?

Meanwhile on this addictive drama, Evan and Paige considered a life-altering decision.

Also, Divya finally received her long-awaited news, but was it the news she was expecting?

Finally, Hank contemplated a life change, but did everyone agree with his decision?

13 Best Vacations Ever Taken on TV

The sun is shining. The weather is warm and we're ready for a little adventure.

But where to?

Even our fictional favorites need a break from the norm every now and then.

Need a holiday? Our TV friends have plenty of ideas.

There's surfing on Hawaii or playing princess at Disney. We've got Wyoming hunting trips, girlfriends in Paris and days spent lounging on the beach in the Hamptons.

But beware of the pitfalls of going topless, shrinkage, and bad hair days!

So get ready for an epic get-a-away and check out our 13 favorite vacation episodes on TV.

1. Friends - London, Baby!

Friends london baby
The Friends flew off to London for Ross and Emily’s wedding in one of TV’s most epic trips. Ross said Rachel’s name at the altar instead of Emily's (Oops!), Monica and Chandler began a romantic relationship, and Joey was the best tourist ever! We’re so happy he insisted on that hat. London, baby!

2. The Good Wife - Wyoming

A romantic vacation the good wife s6e16
It was really more of a working vacation when Kurt brought Diane along on a hunting retreat in Wyoming with his staunch Republican friends. She hoped to endure small talk with the wives at the spa and figure out how to nab a big money client for the firm. Unfortunately she mistook somebody's call girl for their wife!

But what made this vacation great for viewers was the pro-life/pro-choice debate between R. D. and Diane. Rarely do we get to see such emotionally charged subjects handled with such intelligence...and on vacation, too.

3. The Brady Bunch - Hawaii

The brady bunch hawaii
The Brady Bunch got around. There were the Grand Canyon episodes, as well as a trip to an amusement park, but our favorite Brady vacation was their trip to Hawaii. Over three episodes, Greg nearly drowned in a surfing accident, a tarantula almost scared Peter to death, Don Ho played the ukulele, and the desire to place a cursed tiki in its ancestral cave lead the boys to becoming captives of Vincent Price! What more could we ask for from a vacation?

4. Royal Pains - Cuba

Royal pains cuba
You could say that every day on Royal Pains was a vacation, as most of the series took place summering in the Hamptons, but that didn't stop members of HankMed from heading out to other exotic locales. When Boris' health took a turn, Hank and Evan ended up on their way to Cuba. Yes, we believe the episode was actually filmed in Puerto Rico as the ban on travelling to Cuba was still in effect, but we still thought this was one of Royal Pains more intriguing trips.

5. Full House - Disney World

Full house disney world
Even the title, "The House Meets the Mouse," was adorable. The trip was inevitable. Where else would you take the cutest kids on TV for vacation? Danny proposed to Vicky, Jesse and Joey ended up at the bottom of a shark tank, and Michelle was named Princess for the Day!

6. Modern Family - Hawaiian Wedding

Modern family hawaiian wedding
After a bunch of airport mishaps, the entire Pritchett/Dunphy clan finally made their way to Hawaii. Though the comedic missteps hardly stopped there, it was Phil giving Claire the wedding of her dreams in a vow renewal ceremony that made this vacation episode most memorable.
